A large but intimate wedding on the island of Lopud
It was October last year when we were first contacted by Maria and Max, and shortly after a first few emails we’ve met them here in Dubrovnik. We had a coffee on Stradun, and I must say, we immediately clicked with these energetic and vibrant lovebirds. Even then, almost a year before the wedding, they knew exactly what they wanted, and how it should all look like!
As Maria originates from Russia, and as Max is born and raised in Berlin, they decided to have their wedding in Dubrovnik, to be exact, on the island of Lopud. As Max has been coming to the island of Lopud with his family since he was a little boy, and then he continued the tradition with Maria, the wedding on the Lopud island was indeed their dream wedding.
Having so many family and friends spread around the globe, with quite a few guests from the island itself, this wedding abroad was to be a multicultural and multilingual wedding, and it most certainly was.
They were looking for a wedding planner in Dubrovnik who could understand their vision, and deliver it spot on, and we are so proud that they have chosen us!
One hundred and forty guests were about to arrive to Lopud wedding and out team at Dubrovnik Luxury Weddings together with our partners and suppliers, after almost a year of planning, were all ready and set!
On the 23rd of September, at 05:00 am, in a warehouse in Dubrovnik, the workers started packing 150 chairs for delivery, the boat for pickup was all set and ready, and the first item on the check list is done! The day has started!
A lovely sunny day, with clear skies and calm sea was simply perfect for the wedding of Maria and Max.
The bridal party started getting ready at 09:00 am, when our stylists arrived to the island and we started with preparations for the ceremony and dinner.
The ceremony took place in the beautiful, romantic park Đorđić – Mayneri. Due to the ambience, the white chiavari chairs, flower arch and decorations with ivory flowers and foliage were a perfect choice, and bridesmaids' burgundy dresses and the bouquets with burgundy and claret shades, brought in just the right amount of colour.
From the moment the ceremony started, this quite a large island wedding became so intimate. The emotions were almost tangible..
After the beautiful ceremony, and photos, the drink reception was arranged at Restaurant Obala with sparkling wine and local delicacies and the festive mood continued at La Baja, hotel Lafodia, where the dinner reception took place. Besides the ivory and claret centrepieces, the bulbs which have been setup the day before, and fairy lights in the jars surrounding the terrace added a special charm to this venue.
The amazing atmosphere, which included speeches filled with emotions, and a few different surprises arranged by the couple's family and friends, continued throughout the evening, and after moving inside, to Des Artes area, the party continued until 04:00, at least this is the official version.
Besides the wedding day ceremony and reception, Maria and Max had activities arranged for the day before and the day after, with BBQ on Šunj beach, and boat cruise, so their guests, especially those ones who came from different parts of the world and who have never been to Croatia before, had and amazing time at this dream destination wedding. The feedback we had from Maria and Max and their guests made us all really proud!
We can honestly say that we have rare opportunities to plan weddings this big and yet so intimate and we know that Maria and Max will enjoy sitting on their favourite bench on the island of Lopud whenever they get a chance to come back to their dream island..
